The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the Dutchess Community College Music departments to offer a classical guitar masterclass. In this program, classical guitarist and composer David Temple will focus on playing music that inspires the student and the artist to develop and refine their skills. He says, “If we are passionate about the music, we must also be passionate about our connection to our hands and instrument, and thus develop tone and clarity and each aspect of effective musicianship -- we want listeners to be swept up in our own enthusiasm!” The masterclass performance will include four students who were selected by lottery to perform their piece for the audience, each having time to interact with David, receiving guidance on their continued development. David will also perform briefly at the beginning and at the end of the session, reinforcing the ideas given to the students. Anyone wishing to watch the performance on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. are asked to pay a suggested donation of $15.00 per person. All proceeds will benefit the DCC’s Music Link Scholarship Fund, which facilitates music lessons for talented students whose families could not otherwise afford music instruction. David Temple is a local classical guitarist and composer who has performed throughout the country as a soloist, accompanist and ensemble player. He is dedicated to presenting guitar performances that are full of color and variety. His concerts have included the Festival of the Arts at Mohonk, the Ulster Chamber Music Series, the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society, the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, NY, and many more. A graduate of the music school at Eastern Michigan University, David is Artistic Director and Vice President of the Mid-Hudson Classical Guitar Society, and teaches both guitar and composition at Bard Conservatory, Preparatory Division, and at his home studio in Red Hook, NY. This event is co-hosted by the Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra, the DCC Music School, and DCC’s Music Performance Certificate Program.
