Children’s Concert: Sound WavesTwo Performances

About the program
- Classroom materials for pre-concert lessons will be provided. This concert is intended for 3rd and 4th graders, although it may be appropriate for other age groups.
- Videos of NDSO musicians demonstrating instruments will be projected over the orchestra during the performance. The video content will include close ups of the instruments, a brief explanation of how the instrument is played and some personal commentary from the musician.
- Students will also have the opportunity to see closeups of the musicians in action during the performance on TV screens placed throughout the hall.
- Reservations are accepted on a first come first served basis. Tickets are $10 per attendee.
Program repertoire:
Handel Water Music- Excerpts featuring various sections in the orchestra.
Classroom materials: worksheets and a recording will be provided for teacher preparation.
The Swan (cello and orchestra)- Featuring 13-year-old cellist from the Spackenkill School District as soloist.
The Moldeau- Students can listen during music or art class and draw pictures illustrating the piece. A recording and brief description will be provided. The pictures will be submitted to our educational coordinator and combined into a presentation "Sound Waves" which will be projected over the orchestra during the performance.
Blue Danube Waltz Excerpts- Audience participation call and response using the main theme of the piece “The Blue Danube Waltz.” Student response: “By Strauss, By Strauss”
